Corsham School Creative Consultancy
About The Client
Corsham Comprehensive School commissioned a web based portal known as an Electronic Learning Environment (ELE). The deployment of the ELE paralleled the development of the school as a ‘centre of excellence' for various disciplines, particularly visual arts and mathematics.
The ELE was divided into areas corresponding to their key audience groups; students, teachers, parents/carers, governors etc. The ELE also delivered the new school website.
Requirement
Design the electronic learning environment
The ELE had to reinforce Corsham School's reputation as a leading Visual Arts College. It had to inspire users to interact further with the platform and encourage greater participation with the school.
While this platform contained the technical capacity to deliver the service, Corsham School wanted creative treatment of the ‘user interface' but were unclear how it could be achieved.
So, the initial task was to identify a detailed requirement, create an accurate design brief and then to deliver specific design ‘skins' for each ELE area.
The creative approach had to work within the limitations of the ELE, whilst pushing these limitations to the utmost.
Solution
Create the brief, deliver to the brief
Working with Corsham School's Deputy Head and their dedicated ELE manager, we developed a creative brief and project plan to deliver the ELE design work.
Once the brief was agreed various creative approaches were submitted and improved until final designs were agreed. The outcome was a serious of website / extranet designs, animation suggestions and interactive approaches.
When the designs were complete we worked with the ELE manager to ensure that the designs were implemented faithfully and that technical / accessibility requirements were addressed.
Impact
The new design and interactivity developed a sense of ‘Brand' or ownership amongst the ELE users, encouraging participation within the groups.
